Abstract(s)
This dissertation was written aiming the development of a comparative study between objective and subjective refraction. To fulfil this objective an auto refractometer Nidek AR-310A and an auto refractometer Unicos URK-800 were used. Subjective refraction was performed monocularly through conventional optometric tests, while objective refraction was performed through the previously mentioned auto refractometers. 107 subjects participated in the study, excluding any cases of subjects with ocular diseases, surgical history or any trauma that would affect vision, and visual acuity lower than 20/20. For statistical analysis purposes, refractive results were transformed in vectorial components, accordingly to Fourier decomposition. Resorting to Bland-Altman graphical analysis, objective and subjective refraction were compared and also the differences between the two instruments. Result show a greater accuracy in the two instruments at the cylindrical component level, with auto refractometer Nidek AR-310A yielding better results, although the two instruments do not display clinical significant differences.
