dc.description.abstract	A menopausa, definida retrospectivamente após doze meses de amenorreia, reflecte a falência ovárica. As perturbações genito-urinárias, psicológicas e vasomotoras são o resultado da alteração hormonal que o climatério envolve. Dentre elas, as alterações vasomotoras, caracterizadas por episódios súbitos, transitórios e recorrentes de sensação de calor na face e parte superior do corpo, acompanhados de sudorese e ocasionalmente por palpitações, por vezes seguidos de um resfriado, constituem a sintomatologia mais frequente e a mais característica. A sua génese ainda não está completamente esclarecida e existem diversas teorias que sugerem os mecanismos responsáveis pela disfunção da termorregulação. Compreende-se que as variações da temperatura corporal na mulher climatérica não têm o perfil de constância que se verifica no ciclo genital normal, o que inviabiliza a sua medição a horário fixo. Este trabalho tem como objectivo a apresentação do protótipo de um termómetro para medição e monitorização da temperatura vaginal, contribuindo para o estudo das variações centrais da temperatura basal corporal que têm interesse na avaliação clínica da mulher climatérica, em particular na comprovação dos resultados da terapêutica. Esta também permitirá estabelecer correlações entre a variação da temperatura central e as alterações vasomotoras que ocorrem no climatério, contribuindo assim para o conhecimento da génese dos afrontamentos.	por
dc.description.abstract	Menopause, defined retrospectively after twelve months of amenorrhea, reflects ovarian failure. Genitourinary, psychological and vasomotor perturbations are the result of hormonal alterations involving the climacteric. Among these, vasomotor perturbations, characterized by sudden episodes, transient and recurrent hot feeling sensations in the face and upper body, accompanied by perspiration and occasional palpitations, sometimes followed by sensations of cold, constitute the most frequent symptoms. Their origin is still not clear and there are several theories that seek to identify those mechanisms responsible for the thermoregulatory dysfunction. Variations in body temperature of the climacteric woman do not have the stability that is noticed in the normal genital cycle, which makes it unfeasible to measure it in a fixed schedule. The purpose of this paper is to present a prototype thermometer, aimed to measure and monitor vaginal temperature, contributing to the study of the variations in core body temperature, which are of interest in the clinical evaluation of the climacteric woman, particularly in the confirmation of therapeutic results. These will also allow the establishment of correlations between the core temperature variations and the vasomotor alterations that occur in the climacteric, in this way contributing to knowledge of the genesis of hot flashes.
