| dc.description.abstract | O presente estudo tem como objetivo principal analisar (re)configurações nas relações entre imigrantes cabo-verdianos e seus familiares no país de origem, decorrentes do uso das TIC, em particular das redes sociais. Com o primeiro objetivo pretende-se captar as perceções dos imigrantes sobre as diferentes formas de interação mediada desde a carta, passando pelo telefone fixo e terminando nas redes sociais, comparando-as com a interação face a face. Dadas as oportunidades criadas com as TIC, em particular as redes sociais, pretende-se, no segundo objetivo, analisar consequências dessa forma de interação. É usada uma metodologia qualitativa com o recurso a entrevistas semidiretivas. As redes sociais, face aos outros meios de comunicação mediada, trouxeram enorme oportunidades para a conexão das famílias transnacionais. Mas, contrariando as perspetivas tecnologicamente deterministas, não há efeitos homogéneos nos usos dos diferentes meios de comunicação mediada e, num contexto de polimédia, os imigrantes escolhem meios diferentes e experienciam os mesmos meios de modos diferentes consoante as suas necessidades e escolhas. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | The main goal of this study is to analyze changes in the relationships between Cape Verdean immigrants and their families in the country of origin, resulting from the use of ICT, particularly within the realm of social networks. The initial aim is to capture immigrants' perceptions on diverse forms of mediated interaction, ranging from traditional letters and landline communication to the contemporary landscape of social networks, and compare them to face-to-face interactions. Given the opportunities created by ICT, specifically social networks, the secondary goal is to examine the consequences of this mode of interaction. Employing a qualitative methodology, the study relies on semi-directive interviews to delve into the subject matter. In comparison to alternative modes of mediated communication, social networks have led to significant opportunities for fostering connections within transnational families. However, in contrast to deterministic technological viewpoints, the effects of various mediated modes of communication are not homogeneous. In a polymedia environment, immigrants make distinct choices in utilizing different modes of communication and undergo varied experiences with the same mode, depending on their individual needs and preferences. Moreover, empirical research has also detected both favorable and adverse consequences. | eng |
