Abstract(s)
We live in a society of information that is characterized by an increasing and visible importance of the media. It is inescapable the presence of the media in all social contexts of everyday life, as powerful means of acculturation, formation of consciences and transmission of ideologies and values. Children and young people lives are also, since early, marked by their growth in one media ecosystem. In competition with family and school, young people live each day and suffer the influence, direct or indirect, of the press, radio, television and the Internet. Thus, this essay seeks to draw attention to the consumption that young people takes from the media, trying to prove that these ones acquire an even more important role as more off is the role of family and school. We want to create a space that allows reflection about the need for training, as way to ensure adequate knowledge of communication and media, capable to give a forming about the use of media and new technologies. Basically, it is about whether young people are prepared to understand what is offered is fragmented and constructed by symbolic visions of the world and if they really know the way of operation in media organizations, the interests and the objectives that makes them move. Reflecting on the impact of media in the contemporary world, we have to know if young people can contribute to improving the quality of the media, through a more critical and demanding intervention. Basically, trying to see if the education is the way to the media and which actors are engaged in this process.
