Abstract(s)
avaliações de composição corporal, nomeadamente parâmetros biométricos (i.e.:
massa corporal, massa muscular, massa gorda e índice de massa corporal), e de
aptidão física, nomeadamente a força (i.e.: lançamento de bola medicinal de 3 kg
e salto vertical de contramovimento) e aptidão cardiorrespiratória (i.e.: YMCA 3-
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of 8 weeks of the practice of different group classes in physical fitness and body composition in adults. Twelve healthy adults aged from 32 to 66 years old (mean ± SD: 47.00 ± 8.99 years, height 1.64 ± 0.08 m, and body mass of 69.50 ± 8.30 kg) voluntarily participated in this study. The evaluation of body composition, namely biometrical parameters (i.e., body mass, muscle mass, fat mass, and body mass index), the physical fitness, specifically strength parameters (i.e., 3 kg medicine ball throw and countermovement vertical jump) and the cardiorespiratory fitness parameter (i.e., YMCA 3-min step test) were conducted before and after 8 weeks of training. Significant differences in strength parameters, more specifically, explosive strength in upper limbs were found. Even though no significant differences in other variables were reported, a moderate and positive effect size in countermovement vertical jump and the cardiorespiratory response was found. However, no differences were verified in the variables of body composition. In this study, it was possible to conclude that an 8-week period of different fitness group classes, at least once a week, can be helpful to improve physical fitness, more specifically in explosive strength in upper limbs in adults. More changes will likely occur with more classes performed (e.g., weekly frequency and/or duration of the intervention program).
