El presente texto se inscribe en la línea temática del judeoespañol,
dentro del proyecto de investigación GEOCIB (Geografias culturais
ibero-americanas). Pretende presentar, de manera divulgativa, algunos
puntos históricos de interés para el lector que se acerca por primera vez
a esta variedad lingüística (la expulsión de los reinos peninsulares, la
diáspora, el nombre de la lengua, su descubrimiento en el siglo XIX, la
producción escrita y la situación actual), así como marcar los puntos
futuros de la investigación: el registro literario del judeoespañol actual
frente al léxico del español estándar contemporáneo.

This text is part of the thematic line of Judeo-Spanish, within the GEOCIB (Geografias culturais ibero-americanas) research project. It aims to present, in an informative way, some historical points of interest for the reader who is approaching this linguistic variety for the first time (the expulsion from the peninsular kingdoms, the diaspora, the name of the language, its discovery in the 19th century, the written production and the current situation), as well as pointing out the future research basis: the literary register of current Judeo-Spanish compared to the lexicon of contemporary standard Spanish.
