La etimología, disciplina lingüística consolidada en la actualidad, tiene su mayor pro-
yección en la lexicografía. Ambos saberes han ido de la mano durante los últimos quinientos años en los diccionarios de las lenguas modernas. Aproximarnos a las principales obras portuguesas que aportan la información sobre el origen de la palabra y ver cómo ha evolucionado la percepción sobre dicha historia es el cometido de este trabajo.
Etymology, a linguistic discipline consolidated in present times, has its greater diffusion in lexicography. Both fields of knowledge have appeared together in the dictionaries of modern languages for the last 500 years. The purpose of this essay is to come closer to the main Portuguese dictionaries that provide information about the history of words and to check the perception of that history.
