Abstract(s)
This document describe the path of a methodology suitable for an Ecotourism project, including on-site research into the geography of the territory about the geographic context, local culture and existing traditional technologies, as well as the maximization of the use of renewable energies, thus seeking to find a substantiated vocabulary for the work of Project in Product Design specifically aimed at the context of the archipelago of São Tomé Príncipe (STP). Project assumptions were created to meet a sustainable design product within the scope of ecotourism and whose production was in accordance with environmental and social sustainability criteria, in a logic of fair trade and community empowerment. In these assumptions, information gathered through reference bibliography on ecotourism applied in the context of island territories and also examples of NGOs that apply on the ground (in the context of developing countries in rural areas) principles of community empowerment and the application of appropriate technologies (AT) were used. At the same time, field research was carried out on the geographical resources of the territory and human resources regarding the technological capabilities of small local workshops. The analysis of the crossing of information on design assumptions with information collected in situ allowed to discern the design constraints and opportunities that materialized through a series of materials and technologies to be applied in this specific geographic context.
