Abstract(s)
The actual economic situation and the awareness about environmental sustainability problems, promotes the investigation for strategies and low cost solutions, using computational models, which assess and provide energy efficiency in buildings. Thus, the present dissertation aims to assess the energy performance of refrigerated warehouses devoted to foodstuffs storage, which electrical consumption are mostly due to the refrigeration systems. The energy performance assessment is performed using the computational tool – Design Builder/Energy Plus. A computational model of the building was developed, in which it is inserted the data collected in visits to the refrigerated warehouse. The data provided a wholly characterization relatively to its location, orientation, foods conservation temperatures, construction materials types, electrical equipment types, refrigeration systems, lighting and others. Due to importance of the description of these parameters in software and the knowledge how they are treated by different solvers, it was made a detailed description of the tool as complement to developed work, allowing further options selection considered by Energy Plus during the model definition. After model characterization, its simulation allowed analyzing the thermal performance of the building in different zones. It was verified that total electrical consumption obtained in annual simulation shows differences comparatively to electrical invoices in the same homologous period,. This situation allowed the development of sensibility analysis of some variables with influence in refrigeration system consumption. It was concluded that the variables with larger effect in the total refrigeration consumption and, consequently, in building consumptions are the air conservation temperature, the rooftop materials and the building location.
