Abstract(s)
associado.
The present work, prepared to obtain a master's degree in architecture, addresses the issue of architectural space in the context of dementia. We seek to understand the influence of the composition of interior and exterior spaces in patients with dementia, as well as a possible contribution to a desirable delay in the disease. From a review of the literature on the problem of dementia and the analysis of case studies on architectural spaces considered as models of adequate responses to the needs of this sector of the population, it is intended to implement a garden village, in the city of Mangualde, in the district of Viseu, with the aim of providing new architectural languages, designed to respond to its residents, patients with different characteristics, resulting from the type of dementia and the associated degenerative state. It is intended to design the village taking into account specific physical characteristics of spaces such as light, color, sound, temperature, materials and shape, knowing that these affect the perception of the lived environment and, consequently, the reaction of patients in the space. The creation of a therapeutic garden and the contact of individuals with nature will be analyzed in the present work, as they allow for a diversification and complementarity capable of relating the exterior with the interior, in the project that is presented. One of the main objectives of this work is to analyze the role of architecture as a therapeutic resource in mental disorders, in order to provide sensations that stimulate the physical, social and psychological well-being of the residents of the village. Through the application of architectural design strategies, we try to validate that architecture causes positive influences on the experience of space and, through this, on the healing process.
