Abstract(s)
The ambitious transformation of our world proposed by the 2030 Agenda and its 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) has education as its basis. Since we are responsible for training Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL) teachers in Portuguese compulsory education, to raise awareness and train our students in that regard, preparing them to promote sustainable development among those who constitute the future agents of change, is our main issue. This chapter presents an experience developed with that purpose within the master’s degree in Portuguese and Spanish Teaching at UBI. Starting from a student-centred and action-oriented approach and inspired by the Content and Language Integrated Learning methodology, we challenged our students to design teaching units that included materials and activities related to the problem of water, in order to develop communicative competence in SFL at the same time as forming critical global citizenship committed to the SDGs.
